Public Notice of Stormwater Management Program
BPS has submitted and received approval of the “Birmingham Public Schools Stormwater Management Plan” from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as required under the NPDES General Jurisdictional Permit (Stormwater Discharges from Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems), and the accompanying Certificate of Coverage No. MIs040072.
The Stormwater Management Plan has been developed by BPS to decrease the discharge of pollutants from stormwater runoff, and to protect the waters of the State in compliance with the Federal and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality regulations. BPS strives to be good stewards of the land and to use appropriate best management practices to contribute to the improvement of water quality within the Clinton and Rouge River Watersheds where they are located. For additional information regarding the Stormwater Management Program & Plan, please visit the district website at http://birmingham.schoolwires.net/Page/1519. BPS Mission Statement...
By ensuring educational excellence, we challenge and inspire all learners to positively impact their world!
I want to welcome our Birmingham Public Schools families, staff and students to a new school year! It seems like yesterday when the school year was ending. My hope is that all of you have enjoyed the abundance of summer and found time to relax and enjoy the things important to you.
As we approach this new year, I want to share with our families that our work doesn’t end just because the students leave. Many of our staff members spent time this summer working on curricular items, coaching plans, musical scores, arts projects and other plans to make this year another outstanding year for our students. Our team works hard to provide a world class education of excellence to our students.
Over the summer, construction was also moving along as the district embarked on bond projects thanks to the successful Bond passage by our voters last year. The following is a snapshot of the work that was done.
Next summer will see even more changes. We will have nearly four times the projects completed including beginning the work on Groves High School’s auditorium. Seaholm’s auditorium work will begin the summer after next.
In addition, the Board of Education approved, as part of the bond work, 6,690 student computer/tablet devices which will be employed generally with one cart of devices per two classrooms. These devices will be installed between now and mid-winter break. New staff devices will be recommended for the 2017-18 school year.
You can learn more about our bond work at www.birmingham.k12.mi.us/bond2015.
I would also like to take this time to share information with you about the upcoming Millage Renewal. On Nov. 8, 2016 voters will be asked to renew the School Operating Millage Proposal. This proposal will appear on the general election ballot and ask voters to continue to levy up to 10.9236 mills for general operating purposes for five years. The current millage expires in December 2016 and must be renewed for the district to receive the current full amount of funding for students. More information about the Millage Renewal can be found at www.birmingham.k12.mi.us/2017Millage.
I wish your children and you a great school year!
